What Happened?

Shares of medical technology company Inspire Medical Systems (NYSE: INSP) jumped 18.3% in the morning session after the company reported an impressive "beat and raise" quarter alongside the announcement of a new corporate restructuring initiative.

The medical technology company posted revenue of $200.6 million, exceeding the $194.7 million consensus estimate despite a 7.6% year-over-year decline. Inspire also reported an adjusted profit of $0.14 per share, coming in ahead of Wall Street's expectation of a $0.25 per share loss. Adjusted EBITDA reached $38.9 million, beating forecasts by over 40%. Following the results, management slightly raised its full-year revenue outlook to a midpoint of $855 million and increased its full-year adjusted EPS guidance to $1.25.

Adding to the positive sentiment, on August 3, 2026, the company announced a strategic growth plan named Project Horizon. The initiative is intended to create additional investment capacity to accelerate revenue growth through aligning resources to revenue growth initiatives, streamlining the organization, and optimizing the company’s supply chain by consolidating production to support quality, scale, and efficiency. Chairman and CEO Tim Herbert noted that the plan is designed to generate approximately $30 million of annualized growth investment capacity, which will be redeployed into targeted initiatives to strengthen Inspire's operating foundation and drive long-term value creation.

Following the strong earnings print, Oppenheimer analysts upgraded the stock's rating to Outperform and assigned an $85 price target (~63% upside relative to the previous day's closing price).

What Is The Market Telling Us

Inspire Medical Systems’s shares are extremely volatile and have had 31 moves greater than 5% over the last year. But moves this big are rare even for Inspire Medical Systems and indicate this news significantly impacted the market’s perception of the business.

The biggest move we wrote about over the last year was 12 months ago when the stock dropped 41.3% on the news that the company slashed its full-year revenue and profit forecasts, a move that overshadowed a second-quarter earnings beat. The medical device maker lowered its 2025 revenue projection to a range of $900 million to $910 million, a significant drop from its previous estimate of $940 million to $955 million. The company also drastically reduced its net income per share guidance. Management attributed the weaker outlook to a slower-than-expected U.S. launch of its new Inspire V device, inventory issues with an older model, and some patients who delayed therapy to try GLP-1 weight loss drugs. In response to the disappointing forecast, several Wall Street firms, including JPMorgan and KeyBanc, downgraded the stock.

Inspire Medical Systems is down 30.9% since the beginning of the year, and at $63.78 per share, it is trading 55.7% below its 52-week high of $143.99 from December 2025. Investors who bought $1,000 worth of Inspire Medical Systems’s shares 5 years ago would now be looking at only $302.26.
