What Happened?

Shares of IT infrastructure services provider Kyndryl (NYSE: KD) fell 3.3% in the afternoon session after reports linked the company to a potential cybersecurity issue involving stolen credentials, adding to existing investor concerns. According to Cybernews, cybersecurity firm Hudson Rock said it found evidence connecting infostealer malware infections to compromised credentials at several large companies, including Kyndryl.

Infostealers are malicious programs designed to steal passwords and session data from infected computers. Hudson Rock’s research associated Kyndryl with roughly 170,000 records in a broader Azure/Entra directory exfiltration campaign tied to compromised credentials, and described machines that included access to a Kyndryl Azure Active Directory account. The exact intrusion path remains unconfirmed. The cybersecurity overhang landed on a stock already under pressure from a recent revenue miss and cautious Street commentary, compounding uncertainty around the near-term outlook.

The shares were trading at $12.72, down 3.4% from the previous close.

What Is The Market Telling Us

Kyndryl’s shares are very volatile and have had 26 moves greater than 5% over the last year. In that context, today’s move indicates the market considers this news meaningful but not something that would fundamentally change its perception of the business.

The previous big move we wrote about was 21 days ago when the stock gained 6.6% on the news that the company was recognized as a leader for its work with the U.S. public sector in a new research report from Information Services Group (ISG). The report focused on how U.S. public agencies are using technology, including AI, to improve their operations and achieve better mission outcomes.

ISG evaluated the capabilities of 30 different service providers. Kyndryl was named a "Leader" in three out of four categories, a distinction that highlights its strong position in helping government organizations with their digital transformation. This recognition suggests the company is effectively competing in the public sector market.

Kyndryl is down 50.1% since the beginning of the year, and at $12.72 per share, it is trading 61.6% below its 52-week high of $33.14 from September 2025. Investors who bought $1,000 worth of Kyndryl’s shares at the IPO in October 2021 would now be looking at an investment worth $312.20.
