What happened?
Shares of insurance data analytics provider Verisk Analytics (NASDAQ: VRSK) jumped 3.7% in the afternoon session after the company reported third-quarter 2026 financial results that showed revenue and diluted adjusted earnings per share growth. According to the company's release, revenue rose to $809 million, or 7.4% on an organic constant-currency basis. Adjusted earnings rose to $1.96 a share. Reported profit was a bit lower. Cash flow was lower than a year ago, mainly because of the timing of collections, higher interest payments, and a tax refund last year that did not repeat. The company also paid its regular dividend and bought back stock.
After the initial pop, the shares cooled down to $204.77, up 2.7% from the previous close.

What is the market telling us
Verisk’s shares are somewhat volatile and have had 11 moves greater than 5% over the last year. In that context, today’s move indicates the market considers this news meaningful but not something that would fundamentally change its perception of the business.
The biggest move we wrote about over the last year was 9 months ago when the stock dropped 7.4% on the news that disappointing fourth-quarter results from industry bellwether Gartner sparked widespread concerns about a slowdown in the sector. The research and advisory firm reported that revenue in its Consulting segment fell 12.8%. This weak performance from a major industry player appeared to validate broader market fears about the health of the IT services and consulting industry. The negative sentiment spread quickly, with shares of other major companies like Accenture and Intuit also falling sharply. The market now seems concerned about a potential slowdown in the sector's growth rate, compounded by uncertainty over the long-term impact of artificial intelligence on existing business models.
Verisk is down 7% since the beginning of the year, but at $204.77 per share, it is still trading close to its 52-week high of $225.07 from November 2025. Investors who bought $1,000 worth of Verisk’s shares 5 years ago would now be looking at only $958.13.
