Revenue growth

A company’s long-term revenue performance is one signal of its overall quality. Any business can experience short-term success, but top-performing ones sustain growth for years. Enovis’s revenue grew at a mediocre 4.4% compounded annual growth rate over the last five years, falling short of the healthcare sector standard.

Enovis quarterly revenue

Long-term growth matters most, but within healthcare, a half-decade historical view may miss recent innovations or disruptive industry trends. Enovis’s annualized revenue growth of 7.3% over the last two years is above its five-year trend, a positive sign. Enovis year-on-year revenue growth

This quarter, Enovis grew its revenue by 1.8% year on year, and its $558.7 million of revenue was in line with Wall Street’s consensus estimates.

Looking ahead, sell-side analysts expect revenue to grow 5% over the next 12 months, according to S&P, a slight deceleration versus the last two years. Still, this projection is above the sector average and implies the market is pricing in some success for its newer products and services.

Adjusted operating margin

Enovis’s adjusted operating margin has generally stayed the same over the last 12 months, averaging 10.9% over the last five years. This profitability was higher than the broader healthcare sector, showing it managed its expenses reasonably well.

Analyzing the trend in its profitability, Enovis’s adjusted operating margin of 10% for the trailing 12 months may be around the same as five years ago, but it has decreased by 1.9 percentage points over the last two years.

Enovis trailing 12-month operating margin (non-GAAP)

In Q3, Enovis’s breakeven margin was 0.6%, down 11.2 percentage points year on year. This contraction shows it was less efficient because its expenses grew faster than its revenue.

Earnings per share

Long-term changes in earnings per share, or EPS, matter for the same reason as long-term revenue growth. Compared to revenue, however, EPS highlights whether a company’s growth is profitable.

Enovis’s EPS declined by 10.1% annually over the last five years while its revenue grew by 4.4%. However, its adjusted operating margin didn’t change during this time, indicating that non-fundamental factors such as interest and taxes affected its ultimate earnings.

A closer look at Enovis’s earnings helps explain the drivers of its performance. A five-year view shows Enovis has diluted its shareholders, growing its share count by 8.8%. This has led to lower per share earnings. Taxes and interest expenses can also affect EPS but don’t tell us as much about a company’s fundamentals. Enovis diluted shares outstanding

In Q3, Enovis reported adjusted EPS of $0.88, up from $0.75 in the same quarter last year. This result easily cleared analysts’ consensus estimates, a positive for shareholders. Over the next 12 months, Wall Street expects Enovis’s full-year EPS to stay about the same, moving from $3.62 to $3.60, according to S&P.

Key takeaways from Enovis’s Q3 results

Enovis delivered a strong quarter, with EPS above analysts’ consensus estimates and full-year EPS guidance ahead of Wall Street’s consensus. Shares surged 9.8% to $26.82 immediately after the release.

Enovis’s latest quarter matters, but longer-term business quality and valuation matter more when deciding whether to invest in the stock. Read our full research report here (it’s free).
