What Happened?

A number of stocks jumped in the afternoon session after strength across artificial intelligence and technology equities helped lift major market averages, offsetting macroeconomic headwinds from Treasury yields near 24-year highs.

Equities showed resilience as strong investor appetite for artificial intelligence hardware and software providers pushed the sector higher for a second straight session. The momentum in tech shares helped counterbalance significant pressure stemming from benchmark Treasury yields trading around multi-decade highs alongside rising crude oil prices. Typically, higher yields elevate financing costs and weigh on the valuations of growth-oriented companies.

However, market participants remained focused on underlying enterprise AI adoption, evaluating incoming corporate earnings reports, and awaiting key macroeconomic data, including the upcoming jobs report.

The stock market overreacts to news, and big price drops can present good opportunities to buy high-quality stocks.

Among others, the following stocks were impacted:

Zooming In On Sprout Social (SPT)

Sprout Social’s shares are extremely volatile and have had 39 moves greater than 5% over the last year. In that context, today’s move indicates the market considers this news meaningful but not something that would fundamentally change its perception of the business.

The previous big move we wrote about was 1 day ago when the stock gained 5% on the news that the Bureau of Economic Analysis reported a 0.9% increase in personal consumption expenditures for August, signaling resilient consumer demand alongside steady economic expansion. The latest report from the U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis showed that consumer outlays advanced strongly despite a modest 0.2% uptick in personal income. Underlying inflation trends also remained relatively subdued, with the core Personal Consumption Expenditures price index—a key inflation gauge watched closely by policymakers—increasing 0.2% month-over-month. Supporting the positive economic picture, the third estimate of second-quarter gross domestic product confirmed the economy expanded at an annualized rate of 2.2%.

Together, these indicators suggest that households continue to spend at a healthy pace, alleviating concerns over an impending consumer slowdown and bolstering market confidence across retail and consumer sectors.

Sprout Social is down 1.8% since the beginning of the year, and at $10.16 per share, it is trading 19.1% below its 52-week high of $12.56 from October 2025. Investors who bought $1,000 worth of Sprout Social’s shares 5 years ago would now be looking at only $80.74.

ONE MORE THING: The $21 AI Application Stock Wall Street Forgot. While Wall Street obsesses over who’s building AI, one company is already using it to print money. And nobody’s paying attention.

AI chip stocks trade at ridiculous valuations. This company processes a trillion consumer signals monthly using AI and trades at a third of the price. The gap won’t last. The institutions will figure it out. You need to see this first. Read the FREE Report Before They Notice.
