-- The Energy Consultant NJ has announced an expansion of its energy procurement brokerage service, giving New Jersey small and mid-sized businesses more structured support for managing rising electricity supply costs across the state.

According to PJM's 2026/2027 Base Residual Auction report, wholesale capacity prices rose to $329.17/MW-day — building on the prior year's record 833% increase and pushing commercial supply costs higher across the region. The Energy Consultant NJ says its expanded brokerage service is designed to help businesses secure competitive supplier pricing before further auction-driven costs take effect.
"With continued attention to PJM capacity auction outcomes among commercial energy users in the region, more and more businesses are looking for structured ways to plan around recurring increases in wholesale electricity costs and avoid unplanned budget impacts," a company spokesperson said. "The service is intended to make the supplier comparison process more accessible to small and mid-sized businesses that may not have the internal resources or time to evaluate offers on their own."
The service connects business owners with multiple third-party electricity and natural gas suppliers operating in New Jersey's market. Businesses submit basic account information and a recent copy of their utility bill, then receive pricing and contract terms from several suppliers for side-by-side comparison. The comparison stage requires no obligation, giving business owners room to weigh their options before committing to a supplier.
The Energy Consultant NJ notes that an account executive follows up with the business to provide additional information and outline a cost-saving plan. Ongoing monitoring is also included, allowing businesses to track supplier performance and pricing trends after switching.
Longer-term cost planning is supported by this approach, as wholesale capacity prices remain elevated compared to recent years. Energy auctions are held a year in advance of the rates they set, meaning today's elevated capacity prices reflect market conditions that were already locked in before this year's bills arrived.
