CHANGZHOU, China - Jan 5, 2026 - Trinasolar announced that a large-area perovskite/silicon tandem solar cell jointly developed with Huairou Laboratory has set a new world record for conversion efficiency, while a tandem module integrated from the same cell has also achieved a record-breaking power output.
The 210 × 105 mm² perovskite/silicon tandem cell reached a certified conversion efficiency of 32.6%, according to independent verification by Fraunhofer ISE CalLab in Germany, setting a new world record for tandem cells of this size. At the module level, an industrial-standard perovskite/silicon tandem module with an area of 3.1 m², integrated from the above-mentioned tandem cells, was certified by TÜV SÜD with a maximum power output of 865 watts, also setting a new world record for photovoltaic module power. The achievement marks a milestone in the development of next-generation high-efficiency photovoltaic technologies.
Huairou Laboratory has internationally recognized research capabilities in perovskite materials development, device integration, precision metrology and stability mechanisms. Trinasolar, a global leader in smart PV and energy storage solutions, has set world records for solar cell efficiency and module power output 37 times, while actively advancing the industrialization of advanced photovoltaic technologies.
By leveraging the complementary strengths of a national key laboratory and a leading enterprise, the two partners have fully utilized their respective strengths. Huairou Laboratory focuses on fundamental innovation and core technology breakthroughs, while Trinasolar concentrates on process integration, mass-production compatibility and reliability validation. This collaboration has helped bridge the critical gap between laboratory innovation and industrial application.
The breakthroughs in both cell efficiency and module power are the result of combining Trinasolar’s expertise in large-size crystalline silicon solar cells and large-area perovskite cell manufacturing with Huairou Laboratory’s innovations in new perovskite materials and functional layer technologies. The achievement highlights the value of coordinated efforts between leading companies and key research institutions in addressing major technical challenges.
Trinasolar has established a comprehensive technology portfolio covering perovskite tandem solar cells, gallium arsenide solar cells and related advanced photovoltaic technologies. Trinasolar has also entered into an exclusive patent license agreement with Oxford PV, a global leader in perovskite/silicon solar cell technology, under which the company has obtained exclusive rights in the Chinese mainland to research, manufacture, sell, offer for sale, use and distribute photovoltaic products based on Oxford PV’s perovskite cell technology, perovskite/perovskite tandem technology and perovskite/silicon tandem cell technology, as well as the exclusive right to sublicense such technologies to domestic manufacturers. The company has further established dedicated R&D laboratories and pilot production lines for perovskite tandem cells and heterojunction (HJT) solar cell technologies.
Perovskite technologies offer advantages in lightweight design, flexibility and low cost, which align well with the combined requirements of commercial satellites for high efficiency, low weight, cost efficiency and mechanical flexibility. As a result, perovskite-based solutions are widely regarded as among the most promising next-generation photovoltaic technologies for space applications.
Looking ahead, Trinasolar and Huairou Laboratory will continue to deepen their collaboration to accelerate the commercialization of high-efficiency perovskite/silicon tandem modules, supporting the development of new power systems and the global transition toward a greener energy structure.
