Green Hills Software and Infineon Enable High-Performance, Low-Power Edge AI Development for Infineon’s New PSOC™ Edge Microcontroller Platform

This combined hardware and software solution is ideal for streamlining the creation, development, and deployment of optimized safe and secure applications for robotics, vision monitoring, and HMI

Green Hills Software, the worldwide leader in embedded safety and security, today announced the immediate availability of its advanced safety-certified development tools for Infineon Technologies’ new PSOC™ Edge microcontroller family. The powerful development solution from Green Hills is based on the MULTI® integrated development environment (IDE) that enables developers to quickly find and fix bugs through advanced debugger capabilities and intuitive system visualization; the industry’s leading safety-certified Green Hills C/C++ Optimizing Compilers for maximum code execution speed and smallest memory footprint; and the Green Hills JTAG/Trace Probe. This integrated platform is ideal for efficiently creating and confidently deploying safety- and security-critical applications for industrial human-machine interfaces (HMI), smart home devices, robotics, and security cameras.

PSOC™ Edge is Infineon’s high-performance, secure and low-power microcontroller family for machine learning-enhanced sensing, and advanced HMIs. PSOC™ Edge provides hardware-accelerated neural net compute support, delivering both "always-on" low-power and high-performance operation in a fully integrated microcontroller with right-sized peripherals, on-chip memories, and state-of-the-art security.

The integrated Green Hills tools accelerate the development of applications that are both optimized for PSOC™ Edge and purpose-built for use when developing safety- and security-focused applications by providing the ability to:

  • Find and fix bugs faster
  • Efficiently use processor resources
  • Resolve software problems much sooner

“Our collaboration with Green Hills Software enables developers to leverage the unique capabilities of Infineon's PSOC™ Edge, including its low-power, high-performance, and secure architecture, to create innovative and reliable Edge AI and IoT solutions with their software development tools,” said Omar Cruz, Senior Manager, PSOC™ Edge MCUs, Infineon Technologies. “By combining our strengths with Green Hills Software's expertise in embedded software development and tools, we are confident that our customers will be able to accelerate their time-to-market and develop differentiated products that meet the demanding requirements of the Edge AI market.”

“Green Hills is pleased to be working with Infineon to enable customers with integrated and optimized software and hardware solutions to develop next-generation production systems based on Infineon’s PSOC™ Edge family of microcontrollers,” said Dan Mender, Vice President, Business Development at Green Hills Software. “The combined solution ensures rapid development, efficient debugging, and unmatched optimization while enabling cost-effective and timely delivery of safety-certified solutions across our customers next-generation industrial and IoT platforms.”

Green Hills MULTI IDE features advanced tools to quickly find and fix bugs and performance bottlenecks, including:

  • Multicore debugger with TimeMachine® that debugs forward and backward in program execution
  • History® viewer – intuitive visualization of system events and their relationships on a zoomable timeline, such as core performance levels, virtual machines, call stacks, interrupts and even user-defined events

Safety-certified Green Hills C/C++ Optimizing Compilers and run-time libraries enable the efficient use of PSOC™ Edge’s resources, including support for the Arm® Helium® vector extensions on the Cortex®-M55. As a result, developers can tune their applications to achieve the highest performance and smallest code size. The compilers and run-time libraries are certified at the highest levels of functional safety for Industrial (IEC 61508), Rail (EN 50128/50657) and Automotive (ISO 26262).

Green Hills DoubleCheck™ static source code analysis tool is tightly integrated with the compiler, enabling engineers to detect and resolve problems more efficiently and earlier in the development cycle.

Rounding out the comprehensive development environment from Green Hills is the Green Hills Probe that enables high-speed, multicore trace and JTAG debugging to the PSOC™ Edge, and accelerates board bring-up.
