Known as Europe’s "Tomato Capital", Spain’s greenhouse tomato industry is a pillar of the local agricultural economy, yet it has long suffered from serious viral diseases.
According to EPPO data, Tomato Brown Rugose Fruit Virus (TOBRFV) has repeatedly broken out in Almería since its first detection in 2019, and continues to threaten production despite control efforts. Tomato Spotted Wilt Virus (TSWV), Tomato Yellow Leaf Curl Virus (TYLCV) and other viruses damage plants, cause fruit deformities and yield losses, severely reducing quality and economic benefits for growers.

Recently, the Hyasen team traveled to the core tomato-growing regions of Spain with a complete LAMP detection solution to conduct on-site inspections and field visits.
The team visited large-scale local greenhouse facilities, assessed tomato plant health, analyzed the spread and symptoms of major viruses including TSWV, TYLCV and TOBRFV, and communicated directly with local growers to understand their pain points in virus detection and control.
The on-site verification also tested the adaptability and practicality of the LAMP detection solution in field conditions, providing valuable field data and experience for future technology implementation and solution optimization.
As an innovative molecular detection technology, LAMP requires no complicated PCR instruments. It can quickly amplify nucleic acids under constant temperature, with a test time of just 30–45 minutes and simple operation. This makes the technology easy to use directly in the field, allowing growers to detect plant infections early and take control measures quickly, thus improving tomato quality and yield. Going forward, we will continue to optimize the solution for local planting conditions, support the healthy and sustainable development of the high-quality tomato industry, and safeguard the backbone of the local agricultural economy.
