“Every stripe carries a trace of decision — geometry holding emotion steady while the colour keeps shifting,” says British artist Harry MC, whose large-scale stripe paintings are already held in private collections across Europe and the United States.
Bath, UK — November 2025. British abstract painter Harry MC has launched the next phase of his long-running investigation into colour, geometry, and the rhythm of stripes. Working between his Georgian townhouse studio in Bath and a long-standing base in southern France, Harry’s work draws on more than two decades of field research across Provence, Marseille, and the ochre landscapes around Roussillon.
From the art installations of Château La Coste to the quiet streets of Uzès, Harry uses travel as a form of looking — gathering colour and structure on the road before translating them into the measured bands of his Bath studio practice. The resulting paintings balance engineering precision with a painter’s instinct: calm geometry anchored by shifting light.
The newly expanded World of Stripes online project brings together studio images, detailed views of major canvases, and field notes from France, London, and beyond. It also traces a lineage of stripe-based abstraction through artists such as Bridget Riley, Sean Scully, and the colour studies of Van Gogh — all filtered through Harry MC’s distinctive approach to painted rhythm.
“Each stripe becomes a measure of time,” Harry explains. “The geometry stays fixed, but the colour keeps moving — a way of staying steady while everything else shifts.”
