Hear the powerful Nelson Mass, written during the turmoil of the Napoleonic wars, alongside Haydn's joyful final symphony — the magnificent Symphony No. 104 "London."
ONTARIO, Calif. - March 9, 2026 - PRLog -- The Southland Symphony Orchestra and Chorus will present an inspiring program titled Trouble and Triumph on Sunday, April 12, 2026 at 4:00 PM at Bethel Congregational Church, 536 N. Euclid Avenue in Ontario.
The concert features two masterworks by Franz Joseph Haydn: the powerful Mass in D Minor, "Missa in angustiis" (the "Nelson Mass"), and Haydn's final symphony, Symphony No. 104 in D Major, "London."
Written during a time of political turmoil in Europe, the Nelson Mass reflects the tension and uncertainty surrounding Napoleon's military campaigns. Soon after its composition, news arrived of Admiral Lord Horatio Nelson's victory over Napoleon's fleet at the Battle of the Nile, giving rise to the Mass's enduring nickname.
The performance features soloists Thalia Moore (soprano), Sherry Kaplan (alto), Steven Moritsugu (tenor), and Michal Dawson Connor (bass) and will be conducted by Music Director Sylvia Lee Mann.
Tickets are $20 VIP and $10 General Admission, with free admission for children under 12. Free tickets are also available for those unable to afford admission.
