World Menopause Day is held each Oct. 18 and is coordinated by the International Menopause Society to raise awareness of menopause and of the health support available to women during midlife. The Menopause Society, a nonprofit organization for clinicians and researchers, has estimated that about 1.3 million women in the United States reach menopause each year. The organization defines menopause as the point 12 months after a woman's final menstrual period, a transition that typically occurs when a woman is in her 40s or 50s.
A specialist team rotates through the office, where in-person consultations are held, according to the practice's website. Follow-up appointments for hormone care and weight management can then be held virtually, allowing patients to keep scheduled check-ins without an additional trip to the office.
