According to new research from RT Medical, while 76% of survey respondents said they saw at least one healthcare provider for help to manage their Post-COVID symptoms, only 19% were diagnosed with Post-COVID, Long COVID or PASC (Post-Acute Sequelae of COVID-19).

Even more alarming, the respondents who saw a provider about their Long COVID symptoms, consulted an average of 2.3 healthcare practitioners, with many seeing more than 10 specialists for help.

The Struggle Facing Post-COVID Patients

“These survey results are indicative of the challenges Post-COVID sufferers face when seeking help from the healthcare system,” said Ash Dobbin-Mohammed, a COVID long-hauler and Medical Director with RT Medical.

“There is a lot of uncertainty in the medical sector around how to diagnose and treat Post-COVID. It’s not uncommon for long-haulers to be told there is nothing wrong with them and the wait times for specialized clinics could easily be several months, if not a year,” said Dobbin-Mohammed.

“This leaves many patients feeling alone with nowhere to turn for structured support. I was one of those patients, and that’s where we think this Post-COVID Community can help bridge the gap. You really don’t need to do this alone.”

New Online Post-COVID Support Community

RT Medical recently launched an expert-led, online community for people living with Post-COVID. The private Post-COVID Support Community offers a structured healing pathway with Group Support Circles, Live Training Classes, and a Self-Management E-course to help patients throughout their recovery journey.

Hosted by medical professionals and fellow long-haulers, the Post-COVID Support Community offers members a chance to:

  • connect with other long-haulers for support and guidance

  • learn how to self-manage their symptoms, and

  • gain control over their condition

“Having suffered from Post-COVID for over 2 years, I wish I knew then what I know now,” said Dobbin-Mohammed. “I want to help Community members overcome the recovery hurdles that I could have avoided and learn to lead more productive lives.”

Maintaining productive lifestyles is a common challenge for Post-COVID sufferers.

  • 51% of survey respondents said they have had to reduce work hours or have a workplace accommodation since they got sick with Post-COVID.

  • 50% of respondents said they are no longer able to manage their household chores and responsibilities independently.

About the Survey

RT Medical commissions an ongoing survey of Americans and Canadians to gauge the severity of their Post-COVID symptoms and ability to seek the care required to heal from their condition. The figures in this release are based on 2678 responses collected through February 25, 2023.
