About the Author
Leslie Herman was born in London, England, in 1910. During the first world war, his family had to evacuate from London while his father served as a soldier. At the age of 16, he emigrated to Johannesburg, South Africa, where he was employed by his Great Uncle in a company manufacturing uniforms. Taking over the business, he retired after 50 years, having also served in the National Guard in Johannesburg. In 1939, he married Clare, and they had five children, including two sets of twins.
Herman's life is a treasure trove of memories, filled with historical insights and personal triumphs, reflecting an era gone by but not forgotten.
