Elevance Health Foundation, the philanthropic arm of Elevance Health, today announces the expansion of its community resiliency and disaster relief grants through an additional $1.2 million in awards. Each grant supports organizations focused on utilizing available resources to respond to, withstand, and recover from adverse situations as well as disaster preparedness, response, and recovery efforts.
In 2023, the United States experienced 28 weather and climate disaster events with losses exceeding $1 billion each. Through strategic initiatives that support community resiliency, the nonprofit is working to reduce the impact of natural disasters before and after they strike.
“Many of the communities we serve are severely impacted each year by some type of natural disaster. By expanding our community resiliency and disaster relief grants, we are able to make a greater impact not only in the communities we serve, but for the individuals who are impacted as well,” said Shantanu Agrawal, M.D., Chief Health Officer of Elevance Health. “Together with our partners, Elevance Health Foundation will continue working to measurably improve disaster preparedness, response, and recovery efforts throughout the country.”
Seven organizations will receive new grants from Elevance Health Foundation and Elevance Health CARES Inc., a public charity created to complement the work Elevance Health Foundations does to advance health equity across America:
- Americares
- CDC Foundation
- Direct Relief
- Footprint Project
- Health Alliance for Violence Intervention
- Team Rubicon
- Vibrant Emotional Health
These new grants will build on the Foundation’s longstanding partnership with additional leading disaster response organizations including our partner of nine years, the American Red Cross, bringing total investments in this space to $2.2 million.
“Annual Disaster Giving Program members like Elevance Health Foundation are vital to our lifesaving mission, enabling us to respond with essential food, shelter and comfort at a moment’s notice,” said Gail McGovern, president and CEO of the American Red Cross. “Disasters can strike anytime and anywhere, and the generosity of forward-thinking partners like Elevance Health Foundation helps us to prepare communities nationwide for emergencies and ensures we stand ready to care for those in need when the unthinkable happens."
