On Tuesday, residents in the City of DeKalb voted for Missouri American Water to become their trusted water provider. Nearly 98% of voters in DeKalb voted to approve the system sale, according to unofficial election results.
“We are pleased with the election results and, pending Missouri Public Commission review and approval, look forward to welcoming the customers of DeKalb in joining the one in four Missourians who currently receive water or wastewater service from Missouri American Water,” said Rich Svindland, president. “It is rewarding to collaborate with communities facing challenges in terms of investment needed. We’re proud our company and dedicated employees can provide the solutions needed to maintain reliable water service.”
DeKalb is currently served by Buchanan Public Water Supply District #1, which purchases water from Missouri American Water.
“In voting for Prop S, our residents will see significantly lower water rates and a commitment to invest in the system to maintain reliable water service,” said DeKalb Mayor Travis Higdon.
Missouri American Water plans to submit an application for review and approval of the acquisition to the Missouri Public Service Commission (MoPSC) within the next six months. If the MoPSC approves the acquisition, approximately 100 water customers will be added to the 500,000 customers currently served by Missouri American Water throughout the state.
