NEW YORK, NY / ACCESS Newswire / August 5, 2025 / The 2025 US Open Tennis Championships are making headlines with the return of Mixed Doubles in a bold new format - featuring a $1 million prize with some of the sport's biggest stars.
This year's Mixed Doubles competition features an all-star lineup of teams, including:
Carlos Alcaraz and Emma Raducanu
Jannik Sinner and Emma Navarro
Frances Tiafoe and Madison Keys
Novak Djokovic and Olga Danilovic
Daniil Medvedev and Mirra Andreeva
Taylor Fritz and Elena Rybakina
Ben Shelton and Taylor Townsend
Tommy Paul and Jessica Pegula
More teams to be confirmed.
As the US Open tournament unfolds under the theme "Spectacular Awaits," the reimagined Mixed Doubles competition celebrates not only elite performance, but the lasting power of tennis to uplift, connect, and serve - ideals that a former Mixed Doubles Grand Slam Champion has embodied for decades, and a name that continues to resonate across generations of tennis fans and players alike: Andrea Jaeger.
A former world No. 2 at just 16 years old and a French Open Mixed Doubles Champion, Andrea Jaeger helped shape the legacy of the Mixed Doubles event alongside partner Jimmy Arias. While many champions transitioned into media and coaching roles, Jaeger continued service of a different kind - dedicating her life to service in her own unique, award-winning ways.
After retiring from professional tennis, Jaeger gave her pro tennis career earnings - millions of dollars - to help children with cancer and children in need. She created Little Star Foundation, which this year celebrates 40 years of providing free, long-term care and better quality-of-life programs for children with cancer and those in need. Through medical support, financial assistance, education, and emotional care, Little Star Foundation has reached millions of children, families, and caregivers worldwide.
Jaeger's humanitarian legacy remains closely connected to the tennis world. In the Foundation's early years, donations came from tennis legends including John McEnroe, Andre Agassi, Pete Sampras, Mary Carillo, Stefan Edberg, Goran Ivanisevic, and Jim Courier. While still competing, Gabriela Sabatini and Simona Halep, and just after retiring, Pam Shriver and Lindsay Davenport joined with their financial help. In more recent years, Jannik Sinner and Rafael Nadal gave extra time and effort to make a difference for Andrea's Little Star Foundation.
As the US Open introduces a new era for Mixed Doubles, Jaeger's presence continues to inspire. Even with her busy Little Star work schedule, once in a while, she visits tournaments to introduce children with cancer from her Foundation to the sport, even arranging opportunities for them to meet and rally with the pros on the same Grand Slam courts. Jannik Sinner, US Open, Australian Open, and Wimbledon Champion, and world number 1, rallied with several of the children. Legendary coach, player, and commentator Darren Cahill, Andrea, and also former pro tour player Adriana Solarova passionately brought encouragement, instruction, and courage to the kids, resulting in "the time of their life" for all the children.

Andrea's teenage years were busy playing professional tennis, along with her prestigious French Open Mixed Doubles title, Andrea's wins included a Wimbledon semi-final victory over Billie Jean King and a French Open semi-final victory over Chris Evert. If you ask Andrea her favorite wins at the US Open, she will answer, "the wins that bring smiles to the hearts of children with cancer." A spectacular legacy of service that continues.
