(NewMediaWire) - January 23, 2025 - Glendale, CA – The Martial Arts History Museum will honor the legacy of Curtis Wong, founder of the influential martial arts magazine Inside Kung Fu, at a special ceremony on Saturday, January 25, 2025. Wong will be inducted into the Museum’s Hall of Fame, recognizing his significant contribution to the popularization of Chinese martial arts in America.

Published from 1973 onward, Inside Kung Fu broke ground by becoming the first major magazine to focus primarily on Chinese martial arts. During a time when Japanese and Korean Karate dominated the American martial arts scene, Wong’s publication provided a platform for Chinese martial arts styles like Kung Fu to gain wider recognition and appreciation.

Inside Kung Fu was not just a magazine; it was a cultural force,” said Michael Matsuda, President of the Martial Arts History Museum. “Its innovative approach, including stunning cover art, made it a beloved and influential resource for martial artists across the country. In addition, the magazine produced the greatest martial arts magazine cover of all time featuring James Lew and Carrie Ogawa-Wong."

In addition to honoring the magazine, the Museum will induct Curtis Wong into its prestigious Hall of Fame, placing him alongside some of the greatest pioneers in martial arts history.

The ceremony will take place at 4 pm. Costs are $20 per adult and will be hosted at the Martial Arts History Museum at 201 N. Brand Blvd., B100, Glendale, CA 91203. MAmuseum.com.
