Miami-based coach Eric Hechtman has experience with tennis legends Venus and Serena Williams and is looking to mentor the next generation of WTA stars.
-- Two WTA players coached by Eric Hechtman have reached career-high rankings in 2026, marking the latest results for a Miami-based coach who has spent nearly two decades working at the highest levels of professional tennis.
Hechtman is the Director of Royal Palm Tennis Club in Miami, where he has developed junior players who have gone on to compete at the collegiate and professional level. In 2019, he joined Venus Williams' coaching team, working with her across all four Grand Slams and reaching quarterfinals at Indian Wells and Cincinnati. In 2022, he worked alongside Serena Williams during her final professional season and farewell appearance at the US Open. He is the 2024 USPTA Florida Touring Coach of the Year.
That experience with all-time greats has given Hechtman a framework he now brings to rising players. In 2026, the results were on display across the WTA circuit. The foundation Hechtman built with Hailey Baptiste carried forward after they stopped working together: Baptiste reached a career-high World No. 25, advanced to her first WTA 1000 quarterfinal in Miami with wins over three top-30 players, and defeated World No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka in Madrid. Yuliia Starodubtseva reached World No. 53, her first WTA final in Charleston, and defeated World No. 2 Elena Rybakina at Roland Garros.
Hechtman played collegiately at the University of Miami, where he holds the all-time wins record and earned two ACC and two Big East championships. He reached No. 1 in the Men's Open in Florida and the United States in 2010.
