AI-Powered gun detection recognized for improving safety and security in campus environments

Brivo, the AI innovator and global leader in cloud-native physical security, today announced that Brivo Eagle Eye Gun Detection won the 2026 Secure Campus Award in the Artificial Intelligence category. This recognition highlights Brivo’s critical breakthrough in transforming standard security cameras into proactive, life-saving defense systems.

Secure Campus Awards honor products that are “particularly noteworthy in their ability to improve campus security,” and are presented by Campus Security Today.

Brivo Eagle Eye Gun Detection enables schools and businesses to transform their existing security cameras from passive recording devices into a proactive gun detection system. Gun Detection analyzes video streams with AI to detect brandished guns. To deliver the highest possible visual gun detection accuracy, Brivo engineered a Triple-Layer Verification system that uses two levels of AI (rapid edge AI and advanced LLM cloud AI) and one level of human verification.

Since its introduction in October 2025, Brivo Eagle Eye Gun Detection has been adopted by universities, K-12 schools, houses of worship, and corporate campuses. By delivering verified, actionable notifications before a threat escalates, Brivo is setting a new industry standard for what schools and businesses should expect from their security investment.

“Gun detection that is AI-powered, triple-verified, camera agnostic, and able to work in tandem with other security systems is a game-changer. It’s a layered approach to security, and I think it is what every university should be doing,” said H.E. Jenkins, Chief of Police, St. Thomas University, Houston.

“We are deeply honored to receive the 2026 Secure Campus Award,” said Dean Drako, CEO of Brivo. “This recognition further validates our mission to make the world a safer place through advanced, AI-driven technology. By providing reliable, proactive gun detection, we are empowering schools and businesses to better protect their communities and create safer environments for everyone.”

“The entries showed continued innovation and commitment to safer campus environments,” said Ralph C. Jensen, Editor-in-Chief of Campus Security Today. “The winners represent some of the most impactful brands and products in the industry.”

Other Brivo Security Suite products designed to keep students and schools safe have previously won Secure Campus awards, including Indoor Air Quality (Vape) Sensor in 2025 and 911 Camera Sharing in 2024.
