BeMe Health Launches Teen Mental Health Partnership with Sentara Health Plans

BeMe Health and Sentara Health Plans unite to empower 20,000 teens with app-based behavioral health support

Sentara Health Plans and BeMe Health (BeMe) have teamed up to provide more than 20,000 teenage Medicaid health plan members with access to BeMe's digital behavioral health platform.

This platform is specifically designed for teens and offers secure access to tailored mental health content, skill-building activities, and one-on-one coaching. Additionally, it connects teens to clinical services and provides 24/7 crisis support.

“We are excited to partner with BeMe Health and offer this much-needed mental health resource to our teen Sentara Health Plans members,” said Dr. Kristyn Greifer, Chief Medical Officer, Sentara Health Plans. “Allowing us to meet our members where they are and supporting a traditionally difficult-to-reach population is a tremendous step forward as we strive to improve mental health access for all.”

In a recent evaluation published with Stanford University involving more than 13,000 teens across the U.S., 84% of teens reported that BeMe helps with self-esteem, 90% of teens found BeMe content helpful, and 84% of teens found BeMe coaching helpful. In a follow-up pilot evaluation with more than 400 teens using the BeMe platform, teens using BeMe reported a 20% reduction in positive screens for moderate or severe anxiety in just seven days. There was also an 11% reduction in teens screening positive for moderate or severe depression, as well as significant improvements in hope and use of coping skills.

“Partnerships are critical vehicles for BeMe as we tackle some of the most prevalent mental and social challenges facing today’s teens,” said Nicki Tessler, PsyD, MBA, CEO and Co-Founder of BeMe Health. “This fantastic collaboration with Sentara Health Plans represents a significant step forward in supporting the mental health of Virginia’s youth.”
