Captain Groberg’s storied career with the U.S. Army included two deployments to Afghanistan. In August 2012, while protecting a high-level US-Afghan delegation, he was severely injured attempting to stop a suicide bomber. His actions disrupted the attack of a second bomber and saved countless lives. His heroism on that day was recognized in 2015 when he was awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor, the highest military award for valor in the United States.

“We are very excited to welcome Captain Groberg to our team and look forward to tapping his experience and insight as we identify new investment opportunities in defense and government services,” said Michael Greene, a Managing Partner at AEI. “In addition to his valiant military career, he also brings a wealth of private sector experience that will help guide our portfolio companies and keep them on the leading edge of innovation.”

Prior to joining AEI, Captain Groberg was Senior Director on the Mission Expansion team for Microsoft’s Azure Government Mission Engineering, where he worked with governments to identify and develop critical mission applications and systems, drive requirements for solution accelerators, and form new cloud partnerships. Before joining Microsoft, he held numerous positions at Boeing, including Director of Veterans Outreach, Chief of Staff for Commercial Airplanes, and Deputy VP & Business Director of Commercial and Marketing. He also served as an Operations Officer for the Department of Defense, providing strategic advice and expertise to defense policymakers and military planners across Africa, Asia, and the Middle East.

“Recent global events have further underscored the need for innovation and the role that technology can play in helping combat complex threats,” said Captain Groberg. “I look forward to leveraging my experience in both the private sector and military to help AE Industrial identify and capitalize on new opportunities, while providing highly informed counsel and guidance to its portfolio companies.”

Captain Groberg currently serves on the American Battle Monuments Commission, an appointment by the President of the United States. He is a graduate of the University of Maryland where he holds a BS in Criminology & Criminal Justice, and an MS in Intelligence Management. He is also the author of the book “8 Seconds of Courage: A Soldier's Story from Immigrant to the Medal of Honor.”
