Hexion Achieves Responsible Care® RC14001 Certification

Hexion announced that it has successfully completed the Responsible Care 14001® (RC14001) certification process, achieving compliance at all of Hexion’s North and Latin American sites. RC14001 is the globally-recognized gold standard for environmental, health, safety and security management systems established by the American Chemistry Council’s (ACC) Responsible Care program.

“This achievement reinforces our commitment to the highest standards of health, safety, security and environmental performance for our products and operations,” said Michael Lefenfeld, President and Chief Executive Officer. “We are proud of this designation as the Responsible Care program as it complements our culture of safety and continuous improvement initiatives throughout our global operations.”

Responsible Care is a voluntary environmental, health, safety and security initiative. Chemical companies who earn this certification pledge to operate their business according to the Responsible Care Guiding Principles and undergo annual audits by an accredited, third-party auditor.

“The Responsible Care 14001 program supports our efforts to create a more sustainable future by operating our plants safely, being good stewards of natural resources, creating products with sustainable attributes and engaging in our communities,” said Stephanie Couhig, Senior Vice President, Environmental Health & Safety and Chief Sustainability Officer. The certification also adds to Hexion’s robust approach to achieving operational excellence by leveraging multiple global manufacturing standards, such as achieving ISO 9001 certification (International Quality Management System) at 24 sites within Hexion’s network.

The recent certification audits included the Company’s headquarters and five manufacturing sites: Edmonton, Canada; Sheboygan, Wisconsin; Hope, Arkansas, Morganton, North Carolina; and Alexandria, Louisiana. Each audited site participated in a comprehensive review that demonstrated compliance with environmental management, safety procedures, regulatory compliance, product safety, security measures, emergency response plans and community/stakeholder engagement.

“ACC congratulates Hexion on achieving this meaningful Responsible Care milestone, illustrating their continual commitment to enhancing safety and environmental stewardship across their facilities,” noted ACC Vice President of Sustainability and Responsible Care, Mitch Toomey. “At its core, Responsible Care means protecting the health and safety of people and planet. It means taking action to promote safety in the business of chemistry, both inside the facility and throughout the supply chain. Responsible Care companies play a vital role in helping the business of chemistry be safe, secure and sustainable."
