Headquartered in Minneapolis, Minnesota, U.S. Bancorp (USB) is a diversified U.S. bank that provides consumer, commercial, and wealth management services, along with a strong payments and processing business that differentiates it from its peers. Valued at a market cap of $79 billion, it generates revenue through a mix of net interest income and fee-based services, offering greater stability than traditional lending-focused banks.
The bank is expected to announce its fiscal Q1 earnings on Wednesday, Apr. 16, before the market opens. Ahead of the event, analysts expect USB to report a profit of $1.13 per share on a diluted basis, increasing 9.7% from the year-ago value of $1.03. The company has surpassed the consensus estimates in each of the last four quarters, which is admirable.
For the current year, analysts expect USB to report EPS of $5.05, up 9.3% from $4.62 in fiscal 2025. Looking ahead, analysts expect its EPS to rise 11.1% annually to $5.61 in fiscal 2027.

Over the past year, USB shares have soared 23.1%, outpacing the S&P 500 Index ($SPX) 17% gain and the Financial Select Sector SPDR Fund’s (XLF) marginal return over the same time frame.

On March 25, U.S. Bank announced enhancements to its Avvance point-of-sale lending platform, introducing longer loan terms of up to seven years to better support high-cost home improvement projects. These extended options aim to improve affordability for customers while helping merchants increase sales conversions. The platform is also expanding its reach through new partnerships, including Skeps, enabling broader access to flexible financing solutions. Overall, the updates strengthen Avvance’s ability to deliver seamless, scalable lending across sectors like home improvement, healthcare, and other big-ticket purchases.
Nevertheless, analysts' consensus rating on USB stock is moderately bullish, with a "Moderate Buy" rating overall. Among the 25 analysts in coverage, 12 analysts give it a “Strong Buy,” one gives a "Moderate Buy," 11 analysts advocate a “Hold,” and the last analyst suggests “Strong Sell.” The average analyst price target for USB is $62.92, indicating a robust potential upside of 21% from the current price levels.
