I. UV Concept

UV stands for Ultra-Violet Ray. Industrial UV light sources cover a spectral range of 200nm-450nm, which is further subdivided into the following wavelength categories:

·UV A: 320-400nm

·UV B: 290-320nm

·UV C: 200-290nm

·UVV: 390nm and above

II. UV Curing

UV Curing, also referred to as UV Coating, is a photochemical process. It involves the application of UV-curable liquid materials onto a substrate or workpiece surface, where they harden under UV light. This differs from traditional drying processes. While traditional methods rely on the evaporation of solvents to harden the material, UV curing crosslinks the material without the need for solvent evaporation.

III. UV Lamps

UV lamps are gas discharge lamps, which can be categorized into two types:

1. Arc Discharge Lamps

These lamps work by introducing a small amount of high-purity mercury into a vacuum quartz tube. A voltage difference is applied between the electrodes at both ends, causing ion discharge, which produces ultraviolet radiation. Arc discharge lamps typically emit high-temperature ultraviolet light, often referred to as thermoluminescent ultraviolet light.

2. Glow Discharge Lamps

In contrast, glow discharge lamps have a thin layer of mercury coating the inner walls of a vacuum fluorescent tube. A voltage difference is applied across the electrodes, resulting in ion discharge that produces ultraviolet radiation. Glow discharge lamps emit lower-temperature ultraviolet light, commonly known as cold ultraviolet light.
