GILI TRAWANGAN, INDONESIA - Another chapter in high-level scuba instructor training is set to begin on October 15, 2025, as the latest PADI Instructor Development Course (IDC) launches in the Gili Islands. Led by Platinum PADI Course Director Holly Macleod, this session continues a tradition of excellence in preparing professional divers to transition into globally recognized PADI Instructors.
Conducted at the long-standing Blue Marlin Dive Gili Trawangan — the first established PADI IDC Centre in the region — the program offers a robust combination of academic instruction, hands-on skill development, and real-world teaching scenarios. With a track record of over 3,500 instructor certifications issued directly by Holly Macleod in the Gili Islands, the course represents a refined and proven pathway into the scuba education industry. It should be noted that the recognition from PADI over the past 13 years specifically honors Holly Macleod as an individual Platinum Course Director, not the Blue Marlin Dive facility.
Macleod’s approach draws on over 23 years of experience across leading global dive destinations including Malaysia, Singapore, the Philippines, Honduras, and Australia. Her IDC sessions are recognized for exceeding PADI’s minimum training standards, equipping candidates with applied teaching techniques, decision-making strategies, and situational leadership skills tailored to industry needs.
The October 15 – November 5 program forms part of the 2025 professional development calendar in the Gili Islands, which includes:
- August 6 – August 27, 2025
- September 10 – October 1, 2025
- October 15 – November 5, 2025
- November 19 – December 10, 2025
Each IDC session is conducted in an immersive setting where candidates refine classroom presentation skills, confined water instruction, open water techniques, and dive theory knowledge. Under close evaluation from an experienced Course Director, participants are guided through every step of the instructional journey — from performance requirements to adaptive teaching.
Beyond the core program, post-IDC support and advancement opportunities are fully integrated into the training model. The center offers structured paths toward MSDT preparation, Instructor Specialty certifications, IDC Staff Instructor programs, and Master Instructor mentorship, allowing candidates to build sustainable careers within the dive industry.
The Gili Islands’ thriving marine ecosystem and clear tropical waters serve as a practical training ground, helping instructors develop familiarity with variable conditions and real-time environmental assessments. Blue Marlin Dive’s decades of operational experience ensure a well-equipped and professionally managed backdrop for every phase of instruction.
This instructor development course remains a key component for experienced divers seeking to shift into education-focused roles, guiding others into the underwater realm while expanding personal credentials in a globally interconnected profession.
Further information and course registration details are available through the official PADI IDC platform.
