Terran Orbital announces company has been chosen by Lockheed Martin to build satellite buses

Terran Orbital CEO Marc Bell joined Steve Darling from Proactive to share significant news regarding the company's continued success and partnership with Lockheed Martin.

Terran Orbital has been awarded a substantial contract by Lockheed Martin, involving the production of 36 satellite buses for the Space Development Agency's Tranche 2 Transport Layer Beta constellation. This development represents a significant step forward for both companies.

Bell explained to Proactive that Terran Orbital is currently in the process of building 42 satellite buses for Lockheed Martin, a crucial contribution to Lockheed Martin's commitment to delivering on its $700 million contract for the Space Development Agency's Tranche 1 Transport Layer. The Tranche 1 Transport Layer is currently scheduled for launch in late 2024, showcasing the importance of this endeavor.

Last spring, Terran Orbital successfully completed a Critical Design Review and Manufacturing Readiness Review for the satellite buses. These buses will be manufactured in Terran Orbital's satellite production facilities located in Irvine, California.

The Manufacturing Readiness Review confirmed Terran Orbital's preparedness to manufacture and deliver all 42 Tranche 1 Transport Layer satellite buses.

This ongoing partnership between Terran Orbital and Lockheed Martin underscores the company's reputation for excellence in satellite technology and manufacturing. It also highlights their significant role in advancing space technology and infrastructure, contributing to the future of space exploration and communication.
