This quarter, analysts are expecting Matthews’s revenue to decline 34.9% year on year to $290.8 million, a further deceleration from the 7% decrease it recorded in the same quarter last year. Adjusted earnings are expected to come in at $0.20 per share.

Analysts covering the company have generally reconfirmed their estimates over the last 30 days, suggesting they anticipate the business to stay the course heading into earnings. Matthews has missed Wall Street’s revenue estimates twice since going public.
Looking at Matthews’s peers in the specialized consumer services segment, some have already reported their Q3 results, giving us a hint as to what we can expect. H&R Block delivered year-on-year revenue growth of 5%, beating analysts’ expectations by 1.5%, and Mister Car Wash reported revenues up 5.7%, topping estimates by 0.9%. H&R Block traded down 3.5% following the results while Mister Car Wash was up 8.5%.

The outlook for 2025 remains clouded by potential trade policy changes and corporate tax discussions, which could impact business confidence and growth. While some of the specialized consumer services stocks have shown solid performance in this choppy environment, the group has generally underperformed, with share prices down 5.8% on average over the last month. Matthews is up 6% during the same time and is heading into earnings with an average analyst price target of $37 (compared to the current share price of $24.55).
