Dalton, Georgia – D. Seth Holliday, a partner at McMahan Law Firm, LLC in Dalton, will compete in Dancing with the Chattanooga Stars 2027, a fundraiser for the local chapter of the National Alliance on Mental Illness. Holliday has set a goal of raising $25,000 for NAMI Chattanooga before the event on Feb. 27, 2027.
Donations are open now through Feb. 27 on Holliday’s fundraising page. The money supports NAMI Chattanooga’s programs and education work in the greater Chattanooga area.
The event starts at 5:30 p.m. EST at 21 Choo Choo Ave. in Chattanooga. This year’s theme is “Celebrating Mental Wellness… One Step at a Time.” NAMI Chattanooga has set an overall goal of $200,000 across all of its dancers.
Holliday has practiced law for nearly 30 years. Dancing in front of a crowd is something new.
“I’m a lawyer, not a dancer, and anybody who sees me at rehearsal will tell you that,” Holliday said. “But I’ve spent most of my career sitting across the table from people at the hardest point in their lives, and mental health is part of a lot of those stories. If I can make a fool of myself for a few minutes and help keep NAMI’s groups and classes free, that’s an easy trade.”
NAMI Chattanooga serves Hamilton County and the surrounding area. It offers free peer and family support groups, both in person and online, along with education classes such as NAMI Basics and NAMI Family-to-Family. Its community presentations include NAMI Ending the Silence and NAMI Compartiendo Esperanza, a Spanish-language program.
The need reaches well past one city. About 1 in 5 U.S. adults experiences mental illness each year, according to the National Alliance on Mental Illness.
At the firm, Holliday focuses on disability claims. He handles Social Security disability, long-term disability and ERISA cases and has represented more than 2,000 Social Security disability claimants at hearings. He is a past chair of the Disability Law Section of the American Association for Justice.
He has also given time to causes outside the office. Holliday has provided free legal services to the Chattanooga Community Kitchen and Legal Aid of East Tennessee, and he previously served on the board of Hospice of Chattanooga.
Supporters can follow his progress and donate on his Givebutter page. More information about NAMI Chattanooga’s free programs is available at namichattanooga.org.
