Seattle, WA — Poet and storyteller Kabal announces the release of MOUTHY, a spoken-word EP now streaming on all platforms, alongside the upcoming poetry book of the same name. Together, the EP and forthcoming book form a singular, cross-medium body of work exploring voice, identity, survival, and the reclamation of self after years of being told to stay quiet.

MOUTHY is not simply a poetry project. It is a declaration.
Rooted in lived experience as a queer, Black, fat, chronically ill artist raised in a small rural town, Kabal’s work confronts the long echoes of shame, labels, silence, and self-erasure, and what it takes to speak anyway. The forthcoming book moves through memory, body, joy, anger, softness, and truth with clarity and emotional precision. The EP extends that voice into sound, transforming select pieces into spoken-word recordings that allow breath, pause, and resonance to carry as much meaning as language itself.
“I didn’t want a quiet release,” Kabal says. “This work is about taking up space. The book holds the words. The EP holds the voice. Together, they tell the full story.”
Rather than treating the EP as a promotional add-on, Kabal developed it as an intentional extension of the book, designed for listeners who connect to poetry through sound, accessibility, and emotional presence. The EP invites audiences into the texture of the work, including the pauses, the emphasis, and the feeling of being spoken to rather than read at.

MOUTHY addresses themes of:
Voice and silencing
Queer and Black identity
Body politics and fat liberation
Chronic illness and resilience
Self-worth, softness, and survival
Joy as resistance
The project speaks directly to listeners and readers who have felt misnamed, minimized, or misunderstood, offering language for the moment when silence no longer feels safe.
Kabal is a queer Black poet and storyteller whose work centers authenticity, emotional truth, and visibility. MOUTHY marks the beginning of a larger creative body of work spanning literature, audio, and live performance.
The MOUTHY EP is streaming now on all platforms.
The book release is forthcoming.
