The Association for Consumer Debt Relief (ACDR), the leading advocate for the debt relief industry nationwide, today announced that Erick Matos has joined the organization as Government Relations Manager for the West, where he will help lead ACDR’s expanding advocacy efforts across key western states.

"Joining ACDR is an opportunity to contribute to work that truly makes a difference in people's lives," said Matos. "State policymakers are increasingly shaping how families navigate financial hardship, and I look forward to working with leaders across the West to support policies that create stronger pathways to financial recovery."

Matos brings more than a decade of experience working at the intersection of state government, public policy, and corporate strategy. Most recently, he directed state and local government relations across 15 western states for Sysco, advancing legislative priorities, managing external partnerships, and securing major policy outcomes that support operational investment and infrastructure modernization.

Earlier in his career, Matos served as Deputy to a Los Angeles County Supervisor overseeing Health and Legislative Affairs, where he helped advance large-scale safety-net healthcare initiatives, capital infrastructure projects, and legislative initiatives in Sacramento and Washington D.C. He also held legislative and district roles in the California State Assembly, where he worked closely with local leaders, state agencies, and community stakeholders on public policy initiatives.

“As policymakers across the country take a closer look at how greater access to debt relief services benefits consumers, expanding our engagement at the state level remains a top priority,” said ACDR President and CEO Jason Mulvihill. “Erick brings the regional expertise and policy experience needed to help advance solutions that support both consumers and ACDR accredited providers.”

“Erick understands how policy decisions made in state capitals directly affect families seeking pathways back to financial stability,” said Mike Lukso, Head of Government Affairs at ACDR. “His experience working across multiple western states will play an important role as we continue expanding our advocacy efforts in the region.”

As Government Relations Manager for the West, Matos will work with policymakers, regulators, and stakeholders across the region to support legislative and regulatory efforts that preserve and expand access to accredited debt relief services for consumers.
