Collaboration Extends NextNav’s 5G-Powered Integrated Sensing and Communications Capabilities for Low-Altitude Airspace Monitoring

NextNav Inc. (NASDAQ: NN), a leader in next-generation terrestrial Positioning, Navigation, and Timing (PNT) and 3D geolocation solutions, today announced a strategic partnership with AiRANACULUS, a developer of intelligent RF, signal processing, and advanced networking technologies, to advance integrated sensing and communications (ISAC) across NextNav’s licensed lower 900 MHz spectrum.

By combining NextNav’s ground-based 5G-powered 3D PNT network with AiRANACULUS’s advanced signal processing technology, the collaboration will expand NextNav’s drone sensing and long-range, early warning capability for counter-unmanned aircraft systems (C-UAS) while reducing the amount of infrastructure required for wide-area sensing coverage.

“Safe airspace management is critically enhanced by long-range detection capabilities that provide an early warning capability and scale cost effectively,” said Deepak Joseph, Vice President of Product at NextNav. “Collaborations like this help NextNav bring together the technologies, expertise, and ecosystem partners needed to advance 5G-powered sensing solutions for national security, public safety, and critical infrastructure.”

NextNav and AiRANACULUS will validate long-range ISAC capabilities using NextNav’s 5G PNT Network and AiRANACULUS’s hardware and software stack. Initial testing will focus on extended-range threat detection to identify and track drone activity within NextNav’s 5G PNT Network footprint in Santa Clara County, California.

“Applying digital beamforming and advanced receiver signal processing to low-band 5G enables us to detect smaller targets at much greater distances,” said Dr. Apurva N. Mody, Founder and CEO of AiRANACULUS. “Together, we are creating a far more efficient model for wide-area airspace intelligence.”

Together with partners such as AiRANACULUS, NextNav seeks to enhance scalable digital airspace management, delivering long range 3D detection and tracking data needed to coordinate low-altitude commercial drones, urban air mobility fleets, and public safety operations in shared airspace. Results from the collaboration will support ongoing assessments of performance and applicability across critical infrastructure and national security use cases.
