Foundation will continue to prioritize whole health through new multi-lever approach
Elevance Health Foundation today announces its new five-year, $150 million commitment aimed at addressing the physical, behavioral, and social needs of under-resourced communities. Building off the Foundation’s momentum from the last three years, this new strategy will strengthen its efforts to create healthier communities through an expanded multi-lever approach that includes grantmaking, impact investing, associate community engagement, and a new Community Action Leadership initiative.
Under the new framework, the Foundation will invest up to $150 million over the next five years, focusing on innovative and scalable solutions that address health disparities in the United States. While the Foundation will still prioritize traditional grantmaking, it will explore new initiatives and programs that will continue to amplify positive change in community health.
“As we enter our 25th year of service, our Foundation is reimagining how we can make a lasting impact,” said Lance Chrisman, President of Elevance Health Foundation. “While we still have our key focus areas – maternal-infant, food as medicine, behavioral health, and community resiliency and disaster relief – the initiatives we’re implementing will deepen our commitment to strengthening our communities.”
Key initiatives include:
- Grantmaking: Partner with national and local nonprofits, innovating scalable programs that reduce health disparities by addressing community need.
- Impact Investing: Create positive social impact through investment opportunities with small businesses, social enterprises and nonprofits that support health equity in under-resourced communities.
- Associate Community Engagement: Empower Elevance Health associates to engage in their communities while providing tools and incentives that maximize their impact.
- Community Action Leadership: Define philanthropy’s role in addressing large-scale community health needs and incentivize action for change by bringing together experts within select industries.
“Four years ago, the Foundation refined its approach and identified key focus areas where we believed we could make the greatest impact in our communities,” said Shantanu Agrawal, MD, Chief Health Officer of Elevance Health. “While we’re proud of what we’ve accomplished, our evolving strategy will position us as a community health catalyst, driving innovative, scalable, and valued solutions. By launching our new five-year strategy, we’re prioritizing collaboration with industry leaders, investing in sustainable solutions, and amplifying our dedication to our communities.”
