DETROIT, MI / ACCESS Newswire / October 5, 2026 / The U.S. Army Application Laboratory (AAL), in coordination with the 1st Cavalry Division, awarded Detroit Defense a contract to deliver a predictive sustainment capability for tactical wheeled vehicles at Fort Hood, Texas. The award supports a joint AAL and 1st Cavalry Division initiative to modernize tactical logistics through real-time edge-based data collection predictive sustainment models, and transmission in contested environments.

The initiative responds to the Army's need to enhance capabilities to capture vehicle platform data and apply it toward predictive sustainment, shifting from reactive, platform-limited support toward a predictive, distributed, and increasingly autonomous sustainment enterprise.

Under the contract, Detroit Defense will lead a five-company team to equip tactical wheeled vehicles with an end-to-end predictive sustainment capability that integrates with the Army's data, network, and supply infrastructure. Initial deliveries will occur this fall, followed by refinement and Soldier-led validation during large-scale training exercises through the summer of 2027.

The capability closes the loop from vehicle sensor to commander. On-vehicle hardware captures fault codes, fuel levels, and engine data at the tactical edge, where physics-informed machine learning combines it with the maintenance, fuel, and ammunition records Soldiers enter at the point of work, an approach the team calls the Soldier as a Sensor. The result is actionable sustainment status rather than raw data: which component, on which vehicle, needs attention before it fails. Detroit Defense's FleetOps AI and LPPM applications aggregate that data at echelon, giving commanders continuous visibility into fleet readiness. The architecture is built for denied, disrupted, intermittent, and limited-bandwidth (DDIL) environments, so it keeps working when the network does not.

The effort builds on the ATO-approved Data Integration for Ground Systems (DIGS) and Digital Logbook (DLB) programs, developed by Detroit Defense in partnership with the Army, and extends them with AI-powered digital PMCS, motor pool, and echelon decision-support applications.

"The Army has been clear that tactical logistics is a readiness risk in a contested environment, and this award puts a working answer in Soldiers' hands," said Nathan Clark, Vice President of Digital Logistics. "Operator-performed digital maintenance is the heart of it: every record a Soldier completes at the point of work teaches the predictive models something a sensor cannot. That is the Soldier as a Sensor, and it is the difference between fleet-average estimates and knowing which vehicle needs attention next week. We're proud to support the 1st Cavalry Division and the Army Applications Laboratory."

Detroit Defense serves as prime contractor and lead systems integrator, teamed with Parker Hannifin (on-vehicle data collection), PredictiveIQ (Physics AI), Persistent Systems, LLC (utilizing the Wave Relay® Mobile Ad Hoc Network), and Getac (rugged edge computing).
