Houston Jury Delivers Landmark Punitive Damages Against National Crane Operator

HOUSTON, TX / ACCESS Newswire / June 20, 2025 / In one of the largest personal injury verdicts in Texas history, a Harris County jury has awarded over $640 million to the family of David Lester Loree II, a Houston man tragically killed during a crane operation on a San Antonio job site.

The case, tried over four weeks by prominent trial attorney Tony Buzbee and The Buzbee Law Firm, resulted in a powerful statement on corporate responsibility. The defendant, TNT Crane & Rigging, was found fully liable for Loree's death, with the jury delivering a clear message on gross negligence.

Jury Awards: Compensatory and Punitive Damages

On May 12, the jury awarded $159,805,500 in compensatory damages. The following day, they added an additional $480 million in punitive damages after finding TNT Crane & Rigging acted with gross negligence. With the addition of prejudgment interest, the final verdict exceeds $640 million.

Before trial, TNT denied fault and offered $6.9 million to settle while continuing to blame Mr. Loree. The jury, however, assigned 0% of the blame to Loree, fully rejecting the defense's argument.

David Loree is survived by his wife, two sons, and his mother-all of whom testified during trial. Their courage and determination to hold the company accountable was central to the outcome.
