Powered by Entergy, 100+ high-school girls experience a week of learning and mentorship

SOURCE: Entergy Corporation

DESCRIPTION:

American Heart Association’s STEM Goes Red digital event encourages young women to explore careers in science, technology, engineering and math. Entergy was proud to sponsor the recent weeklong event for more than 100 high school students from Einstein Charter School in New Orleans East.

The event featured opening remarks by Yolanda Williams, director of continuous improvement; Kenyon Webber, senior engineer, taught students how to build portable cellphone chargers; and Patty Riddlebarger, vice president of corporate social responsibility, along with other local mentors, held a Q&A with students.

“We are proud to once again partner with the American Heart Association on STEM Goes Red to help develop diverse, STEM-fluent innovators for the next generation,” Riddlebarger said. “Opening opportunities for STEM learning to impact the communities we serve.”

STEM Goes Red aims to prepare female students for the nearly 8 million STEM jobs available worldwide. Not only are American students generally unprepared to fill these roles, just three in 100 female undergraduate students continue to work in STEM fields after graduating.
