The date of this release deliberately coincides with one of the worst events of early American history: the anniversary of the Mountain Meadows Massacre of September 7, 1857. The publisher presents the free PDF as a public counter-record: the complete gold plates transcription offered without charge.
The downloadable transcription, presented as a single reading of the gold plates of Mormon and his son Moroni includes:
• The 1828 lost manuscript, retranslated. The Book of Lehi, identified in the 1830 preface as the source of the 116 pages that Martin Harris took from Harmony and never returned. Smith was directed not to reproduce those pages. The text now includes the later retranslation offered as the recovery of that missing opening manuscript.
• The unsealed plates as rendered in 1830. The text Joseph Smith dictated and E. B. Grandin printed in Palmyra as The Book of Mormon: An Account Written by the Hand of Mormon, Upon Plates Taken from the Plates of Nephi.
• The sealed plates as published in 2004. The Sealed Portion—The Final Testament of Jesus Christ, presented as Moroni's abridgment of the vision of the brother of Jared—the portion early witnesses described as remaining "sealed."
