Young Author Carson Zan Hughes Debuts with Epic Fantasy Novel “The Hero of Stramica”

Salt Lake, UT – July 8, 2026 - A crippled soldier. An immortal wanderer. A tournament that promises any wish. And a war that has lasted three hundred years too long. Carson Zan Hughes, a twenty-one-year-old storyteller with big dreams, delivers his debut novel, “The Hero of Stramica,” a sprawling epic fantasy that refuses to paint heroes in black and white.

The story follows Cadora, a gifted warrior who loses the use of her legs in a rockslide during a pointless border war. Betrayed by her own body and abandoned by the man she loves, she embarks on a desperate quest for a divine fragment that can heal anything. She finds Moshnoe the Grand, an immortal being who cannot die but desperately wants to. He heals her in exchange for her service. Cadora must enter a deadly tournament, face monsters and champions, and win the fragment for him. But victory brings a crushing homecoming. Her people now plan to end the ancient war through genocide. Cadora must choose between tribal loyalty and her own conscience.

Hughes writes with a direct, unflinching style that keeps the action moving while never shying away from moral complexity. He shifts between multiple points of view with confidence, giving voice to soldiers, kings, assassins, and queens on both sides of the conflict. His prose feels lean and purposeful, building tension through short chapters and quick cuts between characters. The dialogue crackles with personality, and the fight scenes hit hard.

The core message of “The Hero of Stramica” is uncomfortable but urgent. Peace does not come from defeating your enemies. It comes from imagining a world where former enemies can coexist. The novel asks whether ending a cycle of violence justifies genocide. It answers with a resounding no, but forces readers to sit with the pain of that answer. The major target audience includes adult fantasy readers who enjoy grimdark aesthetics, morally gray characters, and stories that prioritize difficult choices over easy heroism. Fans of Joe Abercrombie, R.F. Kuang, and Patrick Rothfuss will find familiar territory here.

“The Hero of Stramica” is now available on Amazon and at all online bookstores, as well as major retailers. Pick up your copy today and discover a young author who writes as if he has already lived many lifetimes.

About Carson Zan Hughes

Carson Zan Hughes is a twenty-one-year-old storyteller who writes the kind of fantasy he always wanted to read. He grew up devouring epic adventures, then stayed up late asking himself the hard questions those stories often ignored. What happens after the hero wins? What if both sides have a point? His debut novel, “The Hero of Stramica,” came from those late nights. Carson lives somewhere with a notebook, a laptop, and big dreams. He hopes you love this story as much as he loved writing it.
