V-Glass Secures $3M Investment to Initiate Move from Lab Scale Production into a Pilot Plant

V-Glass, an R&D firm developing next-generation vacuum insulated glass (VIG), is proud to announce the closing of a $3 million seed round led by the Grantham Foundation for the Protection of the Environment and its affiliate, Neglected Climate Opportunities.

This seed round, along with a recent $1 million grant award from the Department of Energy (DOE) Advanced Research Projects Agency-Energy (ARPA-E) under its Galvanizing Leaps in Advanced Super INsulating Glass (GLASING) program, will fund the development of V-Glass’s novel automation/manufacturing technology and accelerate the company’s move out of the lab into a pilot plant.

“Windows are the weak thermal link in the built environment, comprising only 8% of building surface area while accounting for 45% of thermal energy loss,” Mike Petit, V-Glass Co-Founder & CEO said. “And while higher efficiency insulated glass units (IGUs), such as triple panes and 1st gen VIGs, have been commercially available for decades, they remain too expensive to achieve mass market penetration. Affordable, ultra-high efficiency V-Glass bridges that cost/performance paradigm, thereby generating compelling financial returns for building owners/homeowners.”

“We’ve reviewed many new building technologies and believe V-Glass’s innovative approach offers a major breakthrough for both thermal efficiency and affordability. Their technology not only delivers significant energy savings but sets a new environmental standard with 100% recyclability and non-toxic materials—clear advantages over existing IG solutions.” – Josh Agenbroad, Grantham Foundation

About V-Glass: V-Glass has developed next generation platform technology enabling the low-cost production of vacuum insulated glass (VIG) having 2-3x the thermal performance of ENERGY STAR® windows, lasting twice as long, and costing no more to manufacture.

The company has a 15-year relationship with the DOE and its national laboratories that provide non-dilutive funding and technical support that keeps us at the forefront of building envelope technology. V-Glass recently secured its first contract with the Department of War’s (“DoW”) Army Engineer Research and Development Center (ERDC).
