Linshu County, Linyi, Shandong: Picking Economy Fuels Rural Revitalization

In early spring, as vegetation renews, the Stanley Modern Agriculture Demonstration Park in Linshu Subdistrict, Linshu County, Linyi City, Shandong Province, is alive with activity. Rows of tomatoes, strawberries and “Millennium” fruits are ripening in turn, drawing many visitors eager to experience fruit picking.

Walking into the park, neat lines of modern greenhouses create a warm, inviting atmosphere. Charming strawberries gleam like red garnets, plump tomatoes weigh down the vines, and Millennium fruits hang heavy on the branches, exuding a sweet fragrance. Visitors stroll through the beds in small groups, baskets in hand, picking and tasting while taking photos and enjoying a leisurely harvest experience.

“We come to pick here every year—these fruits and vegetables are really delicious. Today I brought friends to try it out,” said visitor Ms. Wang, smiling as she carried a full basket of freshly picked Millennium fruit.

According to Wang Xumei, general manager of the demonstration park, it is currently peak season for tomatoes, strawberries and Millennium fruit. Relying on modern greenhouse facilities, intelligent cultivation technologies and precise scientific management, and using self-developed organic fertilizers, the park creates optimal growing conditions that yield flavorful, nutrient-rich produce favored by consumers. “Weekends are especially busy with families and group pickers—the park is very popular,” she said.

As a leading local enterprise, Stanley Group actively implements the national rural revitalization strategy, investing in a modern agricultural science and technology demonstration park that integrates R&D, specialty cultivation and tourism experiences. The park has been developed into a provincial-level exemplary training base, injecting new vitality into local rural development.

In recent years, Linshu County has leveraged its local specialty agricultural resources and used the picking economy as a key driver. Led by anchor enterprises and supported by strengthened policies, funding and technology, the county has built a new agricultural model combining leisure, sightseeing and picking. It has developed site-appropriate picking projects for strawberries, watermelons, baby pumpkins, cucumbers, peppers and other specialty fruits and vegetables, encouraging participation from nearby cooperatives and family farms. This approach has effectively upgraded and expanded suburban leisure-tourism agriculture, broadened income channels for local residents, and injected fresh momentum into rural revitalization.
