WASHINGTON, DC - March 16, 2026 - Theatre In DC, the DC area's premier online destination for live theatre news, listings, and reviews, is shining a spotlight on a remarkable wave of Broadway touring productions set to grace Washington's storied stages in the months ahead. From beloved classics to Tony Award-winning hits, the DC area is set to experience one of the most dynamic theatre seasons in recent memory.

Kicking off the celebration of Broadway in the nation's capital is Disney's Beauty and the Beast, opening March 18, 2026 at The National Theatre. This timeless tale of Belle and the Beast — a young prince trapped under an enchantress's spell — returns to the stage with all the magic that has made it one of Disney's most enduring classics. Audiences will once again discover whether love can break a curse before time runs out.

Following in April, The Wiz arrives at The National Theatre on April 7, 2026, direct from Broadway. This groundbreaking reimagining of The Wizard of Oz features a soul-stirring score infused with soul, gospel, rock, and 70s funk, alongside direction by Schele Williams and choreography by JaQuel Knight, the visionary choreographer behind Beyoncé's "Single Ladies." Critics have already proclaimed it an eye-popping, high-intensity revival that brings a whole new groove to a beloved story.

Also arriving in April at The National Theatre is The Book of Mormon, opening April 28, 2026. Hailed by The New York Times as "the best musical of the century" and winner of nine Tony Awards including Best Musical, this irreverent comedy follows two mismatched missionaries sent to spread the Good Word halfway around the world, with hilariously unexpected results.

May brings The Great Gatsby to The National Theatre, opening May 12, 2026. Based on F. Scott Fitzgerald's classic American novel, this Tony Award-winning musical has been called a "Broadway extravaganza that explodes with life and energy" by Entertainment Weekly, transporting audiences to the dazzling excess and tragedy of the Roaring Twenties.

June promises a remarkable one-two punch for DC theatre lovers. On June 16, 2026, Suffs opens at The National Theatre — the acclaimed Tony Award-winning musical from creator Shaina Taub about the passionate American women who fought tirelessly for the right to vote. The following evening, June 17, Moulin Rouge! The Musical opens at The Kennedy Center, sweeping audiences into a world of splendor, romance, glitz, and bohemian grandeur that has captivated theatergoers across the globe.

July brings the time-traveling thrills of Back to the Future: The Musical to The Kennedy Center, opening July 7, 2026. When Marty McFly is accidentally transported back to 1955 in Doc Brown's time machine, he must race against time to fix history and find his way home — all set to a spectacular new Broadway score. Rounding out the summer, The Outsiders opens July 28, 2026, also at The Kennedy Center. Set in Tulsa, Oklahoma in 1967, this powerful musical follows Ponyboy Curtis and his Greaser family as they navigate rivalry, self-discovery, and the search for belonging, all driven by a dynamic original score.

"Washington, DC has always been a world-class theatre city, and this season is proof of just how extraordinary it truly is," said Mark Meyer, founder of Theatre In DC.
