The Law Office of Robert M. Helfend is proud to announce Buffalo Law student Natalia Marte as the 2020 winner of the Robert M. Helfend Criminal Defense Scholarship.
The award is given annually to a law school student who is pursuing a career in criminal defense and demonstrates the selflessness, hard work and dedication it requires to succeed in the field.
With her extensive background in serving underserved communities through public service, her drive for helping others and her passion for justice, Ms. Marte was selected as this year’s winner.

The law scholarship has been awarded since 2019. It is valued at $500 and is open to any current or incoming law school student planning to pursue a career in criminal defense. Applicants are asked to submit a cover letter, proof of enrollment and a short essay to be considered.
Mr. Helfend is a SuperLawyers and National Trial Lawyers Top 100 rated defense attorney. He has practiced criminal defense in the Los Angeles area since 1984, representing thousands of clients in more than three decades in the courtroom. He attended the University of California-Berkeley as an undergraduate and completed his law degree at the Pepperdine University School of Law.
