Morayfield, Mar 14, 2020 (Issuewire.com) - Acting Attorney-General and Minister for Justice, Dr Anthony Lynham has officially gone on record warning gym operators not to breach Fair Trade obligations.

Probably the most seasonal industry of all, health and fitness, has again become the spotlight and target of the Queensland Government.

As the droves of new years resolutions flocked into gyms at the beginning of the year, the financial and membership-contractual burden is starting to make its mark as the end of the first quarter of 2020 draws near.

On the back of more than 15,000 consumer complaints against gyms in 2019, the Queensland Government is again highlighting-individuals rights when signing up to a fitness facility. Queensland acting Attorney-General and Minister for Justice, Dr Anthony Lynham issued a press release outlining consumer protection options. More details available here.

Despite the health and fitness industry being responsible for approximately only 1% of consumer complaints annually that are received by the Department of Fair Trading, Dr Anthony Lynham outlined the main complaints levelled against fitness facilities which include members being overcharged, being charged fees after the termination of an agreement, and with the most common complaint in being locked into a lengthy gym membership contract without proper disclosure.

Research is key when signing up to a gym so you can avoid the same headaches as others. One such fitness and gym organisation which allows their members to cancel their gym membership agreement with just 14 days-notice is Plus Fitness 24/7 Morayfield. Check the Plus Fitness website for terms and conditions.

Dr Lynham goes on to say, "the member and the gym consultant will be required to enter into an agreement which sets out your rights and responsibilities and those of the gym you are joining. Details of the agreement should always include applicable fees and costs. All contracts have a 48- hour cooling-off period in case consumers change their minds."

While joining a gym can be one of the best health decisions you'll ever make, no one wants to get caught paying for gym fees if they are injured or have relocated to a new location.
