SusisScrubbers.com to Discontinue Selling Scrubbers on Amazon

Premium scrubber retailer SusisScrubber.com to discontinue selling its products on Amazon.com says CEO.

Susi Harris - owner and CEO of SusisScrubbers.com - announced today that her company is taking its products off of Amazon.com on October 31, 2019.

Harris, who initially started selling her premium scrubbers on Etsy.com, switched to selling on Amazon in 2018 on the recommendation of family and friends who - according to Harris - insisted on Amazon to be a much larger marketplace.

Harris says it might be a larger marketplace but switching to Amazon did not do her business any favours. “I personally love how big Amazon is and the choices they represent to me as a customer, but as a seller on Amazon, it is hard to compete against big established companies. Especially when your company is still in the startup phase.”

According to Harris, her listings were highly optimized and despite being on Amazon.com for over a year, the return on her investment just wasn’t there. “Amazon charged me monthly to have my listings active. It wasn’t much, but it added up and put me backwards hundreds of dollars despite the few sales we did make through the Amazon marketplace” insisted Harris.

Amazon.com has become one of the most convenient online marketplaces used by millions every single day. Not only is shopping made extra easy, but delivery has become super fast as well. Especially now that Amazon has started it’s own delivery service. All of this - according to Harris - makes it extremely difficult for small businesses - who chose to fulfill order inhouse - to compete in cost and delivery speeds.

“It is easy to get lost in Amazon’s sea of options” continues Harris. “As a shopper it is nice to have many options but as a seller of a premium handmade product, it is extremely difficult to compete against cheaper and often subpar product. Which is ultimately what lead us to go off Amazon altogether and focus solely on Etsy.”

When asked “why Etsy?”, Harris said that it was the first marketplace where she started selling her scrubbers and started having worthwhile success on - mainly due to Etsy specifically being a handmade product marketplace - but also because they don’t charge her nearly as much as Amazon.com to list her products.

“All things considered, this move away from Amazon and back towards Etsy just made business sense,” concluded Harris.

According to Harris, Etsy.com is extremely intuitive for less experienced sellers and an up and coming marketplace catering specifically to buyers who prefer buying directly from artists instead of giant middleman.
