Youth's Right for Decent Work and Livelihood, Theme of Silatech's 10th Anniversary Celebration in Geneva on March 4, 2019

GENEVA - February 22, 2019 - (Newswire.com)

“Everyone has the right to work, and to protection against unemployment”, states article 23 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.

The United Nations Universal Declaration of Human Rights, 70 years ago, guaranteed the right to work for every person, as this is of great importance to human life and the stability of societies.

The provision of job opportunities for young people is a major concern for States and policy makers, as youth are the driving force of development and the economic growth of any society.

And despite efforts over the past years, unemployment rates remain high in many regions of the world. According to the ILO, more than 190 million people are unemployed. Not excluded from this are the Middle East and North Africa regions, which have the world's highest unemployment rate of 30 per cent.

The high rate of unemployment among young people often leads to social tensions that affect the stability of societies, thus calls for concerted efforts and integration among them, whether by the State, non-governmental organizations or the private sector.

One of the organizations working with young people is Silatech, which was launched in 2008 at the initiative of Her Highness Sheikha Mozah Bint Nasser on the sidelines of the Alliance of Civilizations Forum in Madrid in 2008.

Since then, Silatech has been working to empower young people economically and socially in Africa and the Middle East, working with more than 300 local, regional and international partners to help young people and equip them with the tools needed to obtain decent work opportunities.

“I am inspired by Silatech’s comprehensive model to empower youth. Not only does it provide a baseline training in all disciplines, but also it engages youth in social and economic development, empowering them to lead the change in their own communities. This is of core importance to providing youth with opportunities, benefiting sustainability and stability”, said Mr. Chaker Khazaal, Silatech’s ambassador.

As we live in an increasingly sophisticated world, Silatech has developed a variety of technology platforms to help young people gain access to jobs such as “Ta3mal”, a platform developed by Silatech in collaboration with Microsoft. This platform is a great opportunity for young job seekers, as it contains about 1000 training courses in many fields.

Silatech is celebrating its 10th anniversary this year, announcing a major milestone by providing 1,000,000 jobs for youth in Africa and the Middle East, which has not only changed their lives, but also the lives of entire families for the better.

Silatech’s work is an example of what the work for youth should be, so this is a call to all the stakeholders, join the forces for the sake of youth, for the sake of better and stable communities.
