Dr. Bahram Habibi Hosts Cook-a-Thon for Less Fortunate Individuals

MIAMI - November 21, 2017 - (Newswire.com)

Dr. Bahram Habibi grew up in a poor neighborhood, and his experiences taught him to appreciate everything he has in life and give back to those who are less fortunate. Over the years, he noticed a trend. In poor neighborhoods, there were certain diseases that were more prevalent due to poor hygiene and nutrition. Due to a lack of financial resources, people in those neighborhoods were unable to treat the diseases. The specialist speaks about the importance of educating parents on how to prevent certain diseases related to nutrition and other external factors.

“Many parents aren’t properly educated on the dangers of a diet poor in nutrients and the importance of hygiene, especially in neighborhoods where factories are polluting the water and air, and creating a lot of waste in the process. They simply don’t know how disastrous the results can be. In these neighborhoods, many families should boil their water, but few do. As a consequence, many get sick.”

The doctor decided that a cook-a-thon event would attract some attention to the struggles of the underprivileged neighborhoods in Los Angeles. The cook-a-thon took place with the help of a small group of medical students who volunteered to speak with companies that would like to be part of the event and donate groceries and space needed for the event.

The main goal of the event was to provide a warm meal to children suffering from diseases caused by poverty. A secondary goal was to open a conversation about the situation of these families and what the local authorities can do about it.

“The lack of clean water and fresh food is a problem. In these areas, vitamin C deficiency is quite common. Many families cannot afford a healthy meal. Instead, they opt for inexpensive fast-food meals that do more harm than good.”

The doctor, with the help of his small team of volunteers, made sure the guests were entertained and pleased with the whole experience. Dr. Bahram Habibi tried to make the event truly special by working with restaurants that provided him exquisite meals that put a smile on everyone’s face. “I wanted to give the event a twist. I knew a meal would make everyone happy, but I wanted to go a step further and give them a dinner experience they remember," he said.

On top of it, a local band volunteered to play some music during the event in order to lighten up the atmosphere.

The event was deeply appreciated by the impoverished families. A woman who came with her son suffering from palsy mentioned how surprising the whole event was. “We came here for a free, warm meal, but the music and the atmosphere made the event truly special. We didn’t expect anything like this," she said.

Asked what plans the doctor has for the future, he replied that he would work on smaller projects that involve a small group of volunteers. “At the moment I don’t have any big plans. I just want to become more involved in the community. In the following months, I spoke with a few medical students and we decided that we should go door to door and offer quick medical check-ups to those who typically can't afford medical services," he said.

This initiative received a lot of attention and support, and he hopes that one day the local authorities will find a way to provide free medical services to those who can’t afford them. The efforts of Dr. Bahram Habibi and his team of volunteers are truly appreciated by the members of his community. We are looking forward to seeing what other events the doctor will organize and how it will impact the local community.
