PR Log - May 01, 2012 - All homeowners and private tenants in the North East of England can now get a Free Loft Insulation Grant to cover the full cost of installation, for a limited time only, through industry specialists EnergyLink.
The Loft Insulation Grants effectively allow all homeowners and private tenants in the North East to avoid the £300 cost of Loft Insulation and enjoy the benefits for free. These include a warmer home and energy bill savings of up to £175 per year.
The free Loft Insulation scheme has been made available to all homes in the North East by utility companies who are falling short of meeting a Carbon Emissions Reduction Target (CERT), placed on them by the Government, and who risk receiving a fine.
As a result, all North East residents, even those deemed able to pay, can now get free Loft Insulation. This represents a far better offer than previous Loft Insulation Grants, which were only available to cover the full cost of Loft Insulation to anyone aged 70 or above or in receipt of certain benefits.
The current Loft Insulation Grants are due to end in December 2012 and will be replaced by the Government’s Green Deal scheme, although it is possible that the current free Loft Insulation offer could run out before the Green Deal begins.
Under the Green Deal, UK homeowners and private tenants will be offered energy efficient measures, for example Loft Insulation, at no upfront cost. The cost of the Loft Insulation would then be recovered through charges on a home’s energy bills.
EnergyLink advise homeowners and private tenants in the North East not to wait until the Green Deal launches, when they will have to pay for Loft Insulation, and instead to claim a free non-repayable Loft Insulation Grant now while they are still available.
It is worth considering that unusually large properties or properties that already have more than 60mm of Loft Insulation installed will not be eligible for Free Loft Insulation.
The other main points to consider are that the Loft Insulation will be installed on the floor of the loft, so it must not be boarded or have any stored items. The loft must also be easy to get into and have enough headroom for installers to work.
