The bar previously known as 19 Broadway in Fairfax, CA, is announcing a new name, a whole new style of bar, and an upcoming new event.Fairfax, CA – Mac’s at 19 Broadway is the new name for an old favorite bar at 19 Broadway in Fairfax. Fairfax, CA, has had a long reputation as the place to go to see live rock’n’roll groups. And 19 Broadway was one of the best Fairfax Bars where you could see rock’n’roll shows every night.
But with changing demographics in the Fairfax area, 19 Broadway saw its customer base shrinking. In 2018, they decided to sell. When the new owners took over, they wanted a radical change. They decided to turn the bar into a speakeasy from the old days of prohibition.
Now, instead of amplifiers and electric guitars, patrons will see a baby grand Steinway piano in front of lush velvet red curtains. There will still be Nightly Live Entertainment Fairfax, but it won’t be rock’n’roll anymore. The featured acts will be jazz groups, singers, and other acoustic musicians.
To further the speakeasy theme, cocktails will include several prohibition-era styles of mixed drinks alongside regular cocktails, beers, and wines.
Mac’s at 19 Broadway will also be hosting Marcie Miller’s Prohibition Walking Tour in August. Participants are encouraged to dress like the Gatsby Days and they can win a prize for the best costume. After the walk, participants will learn how to mix prohibition-style Cocktails Fairfax while guided by trained Mac mixologists. Mac’s at 19 Broadway will show movies from 100 years ago.
