TeamCast and Coherent Logix join together for supporting early ATSC 3.0 implementation and integration of the multiple releases of the standard

By: PRLog
LAS VEGAS - April 20, 2016 - PRLog -- TeamCast and Coherent Logix have joined together to offer the first real-time exciter supporting the early releases of the ATSC 3.0 standard and meeting the requirements of the first trials and demonstrations.

TeamCast's exTra3.0™ exciter supports both ATSC 1.0 and ATSC 3.0 modulation, allowing for a smooth transition to the new standard. Within the TeamCast system, the computational processing required to format the transmitted signal is executed by software running on the Coherent Logix HyperX™ processor. A key benefit of HyperX technology is to offer a software-defined environment that has been very effective for implementing the ATSC 3.0 Physical Layer during all stages of the standardization process and rapid updates during field testing. The exTra3.0™ platform embedding the HyperX technology offers all of the features required for a modern operational exciter, such as SFN synchronization, adaptive pre-distortion, rich control and configuration interfaces.

This exTra3.0™ exciter has already been used for demonstrations at CES 2016 and in several trials in the USA and in North Korea in Q1 2016. It went successfully through the recent ATSC PlugFest in Baltimore and is currently being used in several live demos at NAB 2016.

"One of the key challenges for us has been to design and to implement a very innovative and unique solution, flexible enough to meet the requirements of early field trials. The use of the HyperX technology really helped us to bring this exTra3.0™ exciter to the early ATSC market," stated Eric Pinson, Business Unit Manager at TeamCast.

"We are excited to be a part of successful demonstrations and to experience the results of the hard work done by the ATSC 3.0 standardization committees," stated Michael Solka, VP of Engineering at Coherent Logix. "This progress validates the software-defined radio approach deployed using our HyperX technology in the terrestrial broadcast market."

The exTra3.0™ exciter can be seen on Teamcast's booth #C1736 at the NAB Show 2016.
