Two Key Leaders Join Rite Aid to Accelerate RxEvolution

Rite Aid (NYSE: RAD) has deepened its bench of health industry leaders with the appointment of two new executives: Roxanne Schwans has joined the company to lead market access and pharmacy purchasing, and Chris Bohrer has joined to build out Rite Aid’s health plan solutions business and strategic initiatives. Rite Aid continues to align key personnel with the company’s revitalized strategy, which puts the pharmacist at the center of a holistic approach to healthcare addressing mind, body and spirit. Both hires further strengthen Rite Aid’s position to improve the overall health and wellbeing of its consumers, while amplifying the impact of the health plans and providers that serve them. In addition, both Schwans and Bohrer actively engage with Rite Aid’s pharmacy services unit Elixir, to further support the value its PBM business brings to health plans and payors.

As senior vice president of market access and pharmacy purchasing, Schwans is responsible for pharmacy procurement and overseeing the growth and success of Rite Aid’s managed care partnerships. She joins Rite Aid with 25 years of pharmacy experience in managed care, market access, trade, specialty pharmacy strategy, contracting and pricing, and management and sales strategy at companies like Johnson and Johnson, Horizon Pharma, Walgreens and Amgen Biologics.

As senior vice president of payor and strategic initiatives, Bohrer will lead the strategic design and evolution of products and services that drive value for health plan customers, while growing Rite Aid’s health plan solutions business. In addition, he will support the broader enterprise on key strategic initiatives. He comes to Rite Aid from McKinsey & Company, where he was an associate partner in its healthcare practice, working with leading health insurers across the country. Prior to McKinsey, Bohrer served in actuarial, benefit design, and business development roles with Hays Companies and Humana.

"Our pharmacists are among the most trusted and accessible clinicians in our communities, and we are doubling down on a model in which they reinforce the connectivity between our customers and their care teams, instead of replacing their care teams with our own. Our model is designed to decrease healthcare costs while improving outcomes -- uniquely aligning incentives among consumers, Rite Aid, health plans and providers,” said Jim Peters, chief operating officer, Rite Aid. “Roxanne and Chris will ensure our managed care strategies and novel health plan partnerships deliver on this unique value proposition, and I’m pleased to have such capable and forward-thinking healthcare leaders helping to drive our RxEvolution strategy forward.”
